59. Riotous living

Another rooftop in the dark, a crowd of people of many nationalities, a bunch of Nepalis with guitars and drums, singing, dancing, loud and cheerful and wild.  Lots of Indians, everybody mixing, shaking hands and exchanging names with people they will never see again.  All aided, of course, by the beer.  John, one of our volunteers, had his birthday and we sang to him in Tibetan, Hindi, Irish, Welsh and Nepali.  Not one single Indian woman of course.  I walked home through the nearly deserted streets at 10.30, accompanied by Tenpun, my guitar toting friend who is a trendy 24 year old, quiet and sociable.  He was a monk in Tibet and however much he is enjoying his student life here he never forgets his Cause and uses song to communicate the message of the his people.
