Its got to be one of the best ways of spending an evening. A meal with a friend, time to chat, mull things over, enjoy lovely food, be treated to a glass of champagne. In this case, somebody I have known professionally for years but not as a friend. Actually he's my financial adviser and it has to be a sign of how well he's done for me if he's made enough out of me to take me out to dinner!!
We ate lovely Japanese food, beautifully served in comfortable surroundings. Its really nice when you enjoy somebody's company but because its a professional contact you dont cross that line to talk about personal things, and then have an few hours without the business stuff - it was good to hear about his kids and his life and to chew things over. It never ceases to surprise and delight me how people can be so connected, can say just the right thing, can be there for you, just when you least expect it. This guy, nice though he is, is not somebody I would normally mix with socially and yet he's very good company, and after long, relaxed chat about everything in the world, we got chatting about families and how they work - or dont - and he managed to just say the right thing and made me feel good about myself on a night when I was feeling very much the black sheep of my particular family, and not feeling good about it.
Its your mates that get you through.
My plans are taking shape. The latest step is that a friend has just brokered me a 2nd hand micro light tent - wonderful!
